Pay Range: $24,000-$30,000 DOE

SALT2 is a sister company to SALT Contemporary Dance focused on fostering the

artistic voices of its dancers through exploration and performance, with an emphasis on

helping dancers progress to the next phase of their career. SALT2 mirrors the format of

SALT, and works closely with the main company.

Responsibilities Overview:

The SALT2 director is responsible for managing all

aspects of the SALT2 company program. Including: running rehearsals, teaching class,

hiring choreographers, scheduling, creating work, mentoring dancers and working

closely with SALT’s Artistic Director to meet the needs of the company dancers.

Extensive experience is needed in contemporary dance, leadership, choreography,

organization, and mentorship. SALT is looking for someone who possesses a passion

for contemporary dance and who is sensitive to the demands and challenges of

company work, the creative process, education of company dancers, and possesses

strong mentorship abilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

● Maintain a strong, collaborative relationship with SALT’s Artistic Director

● Develop and manage teaching/choreography schedule

● Maintain professional relationship with dancers and manage weekly

communication via email

● Teach company classes

● Ensure dancers know and are able to interpret the work as set by the

choreographer.

● Lead, inspire, motivate and engage dancers

● Manage all details regarding shows (theater communication, tech personnel,

sound, floor rental, program information, etc)

● Manage dancer relationships and development

● Connect with and guide each dancer as they prepare for their next step

● Maintain artistic vision and standards of SALT Contemporary Dance

● Attend weekly meetings

● Work collaboratively with executive team to assess programming, implement

changes and track success

● Track and communicate all administrative needs

● Be familiar with new works (observing creation process) and rehearsing dancers

● Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

● Extensive experience and knowledge working in a contemporary dance

environment

● High level training and experience in classical ballet and contemporary dance

● Experience teaching pre-professional, classically-trained dancers in a

contemporary dance environment

● Experience teaching and rehearsing contemporary dance repertoire

● Must be available to work during rehearsal hours 9am-2pm and some evenings

and weekends (September-May)
